Vare Recreation Center Reconstruction Project Receives $250,000 for Synthetic Turf Field | Director General’s Office


South Philadelphia’s Vare Recreation Center, one of 72 sites selected as part of Mayor Jim Kenney’s rebuilding initiative, received some exciting news last week.

The Philadelphia Eagles, through the National Football League Foundation’s Grassroots program, and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) awarded $250,000 to the Vare Recreation Center project to install an artificial turf field that will allow generations young athletes and community members to play.

Funds from this unique partnership between the City of Philadelphia’s Rebuild Initiative and nonprofit partner Make The World Better, founded by Eagles legend Connor Barwin, will join millions of dollars in investments in Vare through the Rebuild initiative and will support the investment. to new ground.

“Providing high-quality public spaces where young people can play, learn and thrive is central to our vision for Rebuild,” said Mayor Jim Kenney. “I am grateful to our many partners in this vision. The investment from the Eagles, NFL Foundation and LISC will strengthen our ability to provide a recreational space that will serve the Vare community for years to come.
