UMF to Celebrate Fitness and Recreation Center’s 30th Anniversary with Race Tri-fecta, April 30 – Daily Bulldog


FARMINGTONJoin the University of Maine at Farmington as he celebrates the 30and Anniversary of the UMF Fitness and Recreation Center with a “Tri-fecta” of outdoor events on Saturday, April 30, 2022. Events include canoe/kayak races, mountain bike races and trail running. walk followed by a festive reception on campus.

Registration for all events is currently open to campus and community members. To register for the canoe/kayak race only, go to the canoe/kayak race registration form, for all others, register at index.html. Races are scheduled at staggered times so participants can take part in one, two or all three Tri-fecta events.

FRC 30and Anniversary events:

Canoe/Kayak Race Sandy River and Tri-fecta
Check in 8:30 a.m. / Race start 9 a.m.
10 mile racing flatwater course with class I and II whitewater. Meet at the ball field where Rte. 145 meets Rte. 4 strong. End at the Little League Ball Park in Fairbanks on ME-4. Rental canoes and kayaks are available.

Mainely Outdoors Grind Two Wheel Mountain Bike Race
Check in 11 a.m. / Start race 11:30 a.m.
A 10 mile run starting from the UMF Fitness and Recreation Center on road, dirt road and trails. The precise route will be determined closer to the event.

Beaver Dash 5K
Check in 12:30 p.m. / Start race 1 p.m.
A hilly 5k road race starting at the UMF Fitness and Recreation Center through campus and local neighborhoods.

Starts at 4:00 p.m. in the parking lot behind the UMF Fitness and Recreation Center.

Community sponsors include The Better Living Center; buttress management; University Credit Union and Devaney, Doak & Garrett Booksellers.

The UMF Fitness and Recreation Center opened on April 27, 1992. Originally called the Health and Fitness Center, the FRC is dedicated to participatory fitness and recreation activities. It has four multipurpose courts for tennis, basketball, volleyball and indoor sports; an indoor jogging/walking track; a fully equipped weight and cardiovascular fitness room and a six lane swimming pool. FRC programs include group fitness, personal fitness and wellness, water sports, American Red Cross certification, and several programs for youth and teens, and more.

Many UMF students find employment at FRC with its many programs where they can learn transferable skills for any future career path.
