PRICEVILLE, Ala. – The Priceville Event and Recreation Center is under construction and is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.
A 5-6 year old dream of the city is finally coming true. They first opened the site in May 2021 and now they have been under construction for about a year.
“It’s been a hidden gem,” Priceville Mayor Sam Heflin said. “We are no longer hidden.
The small town of Priceville, with less than 4,000 residents, is growing. One of the first of many projects is the event center.
“There will be a full-size regulation gymnasium,” the mayor said. “We’re going to have meeting space, we’re going to have workout facilities there, we’re going to have an outdoor yoga area.”
Mayor Heflin has big goals for the building. He wants to organize events like craft shows, as well as basketball and volleyball tournaments.
He says he is excited about what will happen in the region in the future.
“We want Marco Drive to be our new downtown and so with the building here, the developers are moving on,” he said. “They see it and they want to know what’s going on. As it’s finished, we’re going to match it to City Hall, so we’re sort of setting a standard for what we want the development to look like here.
The standard is such that current and future residents of Priceville can be proud of their city.
“This gives us a chance to really drive our economic growth and development here in the City of Priceville,” Mayor Heflin said.
Due to supply chain issues and rising steel prices, completion of the construction project was delayed for a few months. Mayor Heflin expects it to be completed by September 15.
