Orange plans to open a new leisure center in 2022

The new facility will be located on West Orange Avenue in place of the old natatorium.

ORANGE, Texas – The city of Orange is getting a new recreation center, and it’s in a familiar location.

The new facility will be located on West Orange Avenue in place of the old natatorium.

City leaders say they plan to open just in time for summer vacation.

They said the facility will provide space for anything the community might need.

The inhabitants of Orange will have to wait a little longer for the new leisure center to open its doors. City leaders hope it will soon be available to serve as a new play ground for adults and children just in time for summer vacation.

Construction has begun to convert the old natatorium into a new and improved recreation center for the enjoyment of all members of the community.

A new face from Chicago, Anthony Dandridge is the center’s new director. He has experience as a positive role model for children and now at Orange.

“I appreciate the city of Orange because it’s such a small community,” Dandridge said. “It’s a great place to raise a family. It’s a great place to have a family and community vibe.”

The importance of having a place where children, adults and people from the neighborhood can gather is great. That’s why manager James Lawerence said it was important to change the natatorium.

“In the last few years you couldn’t keep the pool always full because of some leaks and the cost was just too high to fix it. And the usage wasn’t there that was needed,” Lawerence said.

Orange Mayor Larry Spears Jr. spearheaded this project to have more outlets for children here in Orange, and Dandrige hopes his goals for developing the center will be achieved.

“I just want to make sure he grows up,” Dandridge said. So it’s our goal to make sure we stay in touch with the community so this place can thrive.

The two full basketball courts are a key feature that most people are most excited about. So this summer, it will be “game-on” at the new leisure center.
