Handley Recreation Center Receives Anonymous $10,000 Donation | Local News

LEAD – The Handley Recreation Center was notified Jan. 19 that it will be receiving a donation in the amount of $10,000 from an anonymous donor. The donor is a former educator and coach and believes in the power of community and the education of young children.

This donor has a big heart for the community and hopes this donation will encourage others to step up and help make this project for the youth of Lead-Deadwood a reality.

The Handley Center has a $2.6 million goal for comprehensive renovations that would include additional classrooms, a commercial kitchen for community events and a reliable way to provide meals for youth participating in the after-school program as well as a additional community space. There will also be an addition of a full-time child care program at the facility, with the new construction.

Renovations to the Handley Center will allow this community center to be seen as a hub providing services to youth and adults. This center will be a gathering place to build community bonds, provide a safe haven for children, and continue our dedication to health and wellness in the community.
