FMWR hosts grand reopening of Corkan Recreation Area

Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation hosted the grand reopening of the Corkan Recreation Area on Friday, May 20 at Fort Stewart. Families with children of all ages eagerly waited for the doors to open after two years of closure due to the COVID19 pandemic. Attendees enjoyed free admission to the roller skating rink, indoor inflatable slides, tree house, miniature golf and paddling pool. The first hundred participants even received a party cake and ice cream.

“This event was a huge success for the Fort Stewart community as it drew a large crowd and gave hundreds of families the opportunity to have a fun and relaxing afternoon,” said Ashley Sivert of the special events team.

A new toddler play area was installed in 2019 but was not used as COVID19 caused the facility to close. The laser tag area has also been converted into a nerf blaster area. Pop-a-shot basketball and skee ball are coming soon.

“The reopening of Corkan provides affordable enjoyment for soldiers, family members and retirees without having to drive very far. MWR is about giving back to our soldiers, families and veterans. The reopening of Corkan Recreation to offer multiple recreational activities is the icing on the cake,” said Sivert.

The Corkan Recreation Area is now open for the season, Thursday through Monday, 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. For more information on facilities, price list or to book a private party, visit online at
