TEXARKANA, Ark. – The University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana and the Texarkana, Arkansas Department of Parks and Recreation have partnered to host College Fair Night on April 5.

The event will take place at the newly opened Texarkana Recreation Center, 1 Legion St. It will feature approximately 20 area colleges, including Texarkana College, Texas A&M University-Texarkana, Louisiana Tech University, University of North Texas and Arkansas State University . .

Parks Superintendent Adam Dalby said it would be a great opportunity for local students to gather information about area colleges to help them with career decisions after high school.

“We came up with the idea of bringing this fair to colleges to try to bring in a lot of different colleges and universities,” he said. “We’ve contacted just about every high school within a 50 mile radius, so we’re hoping for a strong turnout. We’ll be setting everything up in the gymnasium and hopefully having a lot of the local high schools come out for information from several different schools.”

In addition to colleges, the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department is establishing a position for its police academy.

The Texarkana College organization TRIO will be there to provide student financial aid information.

“I think it’s going to be a really successful event,” Dalby said. “It’s the first time we’ve done it, but we hope to do it every year or even a few times a year.”

Dalby said that when he was in high school, colleges came to the school to set up shop and meet students. With this event, he hopes that students will be able to meet and talk with several universities in one place.

“We felt that if you could bring multiple universities together in one place at once, it’s kind of a one-stop shop where they can get all the information they need from multiple different places to make a more informed decision on where they want to go. go to school,” he says.

Dalby said the event is an example of the kind of community involvement the recreation center can provide.

“It’s really exciting for me,” he said. “We really thought it would take off when we opened, and it’s coming to fruition. This will be a great location for the community as a whole. We plan to offer several events throughout the year, from the college fair to a fair job that we’re working on right now and more. We’ve certainly gotten off to a good start.”
