Get outside for family day

Family Day events scheduled at the Tournament Capital Center have been canceled by the City of Kamloops, with the city instead encouraging families to take advantage of the free recreational activities available year-round in the area.

According to a city press release, the festivities are postponed for a year due to ongoing public health restrictions related to COVID-19.

Dewi Evans, the town’s community events coordinator, said in a statement that they are looking forward to the events, but will have to wait until next year.

“We looked forward to welcoming all those smiling faces to the Tournament Capital Center, but to continue doing our part in protecting our community, we will have to wait another year,” said Evans.

The city said it is encouraging families to celebrate the holiday – Monday, Feb. 21 – by spending time together and going outside.

The city suggested trying the new cross-country ski trail at West Highlands Park, touring the city’s nature trails, checking out the downtown Kamloops art murals, or taking the guided walking tour. of the city’s heritage.

“There are many free and fun family activities available year-round in our community,” Evans said.

“With a variety of options for all ages and abilities, we hope to encourage residents to be active throughout the winter season, not just on the upcoming Family Day.”

The city said residents can also search for seasonal recreation programs in the 2022 Winter Activity Guide.
