Geyser coffee maker

A geyser coffee maker is a machine that will help you prepare aromatic and rich coffee. Before choosing this household appliance, familiarize yourself with its functional features and advantages, as well as the operating conditions.
How does a geyser coffee maker work?
Geyser coffee makers are divided into two types: electric and gas. Electric ones are plugged into an outlet, and gas ones are put on the stove. Also, gas options can be taken with you on a hike and put on a fire.
The principle of operation is similar to the action of a geyser. It consists of three containers: a metal container for water, a funnel filter and a container for the finished drink.
Water is drawn into the metal container, ground coffee is poured into the filter, another container is fixed on top (for the finished drink). After that, the coffee maker is put on fire or connected to the network.
During the heating process, the water rises and the steam passes through the coffee funnel. Then it rises to the top (under the influence of temperature and increased pressure – the principle of a geyser) as a ready-made aromatic drink.
Geyser coffee maker device
- In appearance, it resembles a teapot, but not one-piece, but consisting of several parts;
- Regardless of the manufacturer and the volume of the coffee maker, their design is always the same: a water tank is placed below, then a filter for ground coffee and the top of the kettle is a container for the finished drink. Only such a design is able to repeat the principle of a geyser;
- Only ground coffee is poured into the coffee maker;
- The device is designed in such a way that water must always be poured into it to the mark;
- The lower part (water tank) is made exclusively of metal – this is another of its design features.
Aluminum or steel is used as a metal for manufacturing. The upper part can be created from various materials: glass, plastic, or metal.
Functions
Depending on the price, type and manufacturer, functional features may differ:
- Sound signal that indicates readiness;
- A light indicator that shows whether the device is on or off;
- The timer shows how much time is left until ready;
- Short circuit protection function;
- Auto power off;
- Heating. This function maintains the temperature for some time after switching off;
- Digital timer, it allows you to set the time when the coffee maker should turn on by itself. It is very convenient in the morning: when you get up, and aromatic coffee is already waiting for you.
The main function of the coffee maker is the preparation of strong and aromatic coffee, and the rest of the functions are add-ons that help optimize the brewing process.
Pros and cons of geyser coffee makers
Advantages of geyser coffee makers:
- They allow you to prepare a very strong, aromatic and rich drink, which is much tastier than what is obtained when cooked in a Turk;
- Compared to the Turks, cooking in a geyser coffee maker is much more convenient: you don’t need to stand over the appliance all the time and make sure that the mixture does not run onto the stove;
- Notifies that cooking is completed;
- The finished drink does not have coffee grounds. The design of the product is made in such a way that the mixture from the filter simply saturates the drink and does not fall into the upper container. You don’t have to drink the sediment;
- The resulting drink will be much stronger and tastier than prepared in a Turk;
- You can add spices to taste: cinnamon, ginger, etc.;
- Affordable price;
- Does not take up much space in the kitchen, which makes it convenient and practical;
- Tea or medicinal herbs are brewed in the unit.
Disadvantages of geyser coffee makers:
- Designed for a certain amount of liquid. So, if the coffee maker is designed for 2 cups, more or less at a time will not work;
- Before making coffee, you need to grind it, and it is best that the grind is coarse – this will prevent clogging of the filter. The disadvantage is that you need to carefully choose the grind or grind the grains yourself;
- Such a coffee maker is much harder to wash than a Turk – this is due to its structure;
- No foam;
- After turning off the coffee maker, it remains hot, so be careful not to burn yourself on the metal part.
How to use
- Read the instruction manual before use;
- Before turning on, make sure that all parts are in place and that you have installed everything correctly;
- Turn on the equipment. If the appliance is placed on the stove, put it on the burner and turn on the gas. If you bought an electric coffee maker, you need to turn it on;
- When coffee fills the top (in case there is no beep) or when you hear a beep, the drink is poured into the cups;
- Be careful with a hot coffee maker – do not touch it with bare hands. To pour coffee into cups, take only the handle of the product with your hands.
- Wash the appliance after each preparation: this way you will prevent the filter from clogging. Cannot be washed in a dishwasher. It is better to do this manually with the addition of dishwashing detergent.
Precautionary measures
To prolong the life of the equipment and not cause harm to yourself, follow the precautions during operation:
- Before switching on, check the correct connection of the elements and their tightness;
- Do not turn off the coffee maker until the moment of preparation;
- Do not touch during operation: it is made of metal, which heats up quickly, if you touch it, you can burn yourself;
- Never pour coffee beans into the filter, unless the coffee maker has a grinding function;
- If the coffee maker is designed to be installed on a gas stove, do not turn on the gas at full power.
Read the rules for operating equipment before using it – this will save it from premature breakdowns, and you – from household injuries.
Faults
- Steam comes out. This is due to the fact that the lid is not tightly closed. Carefully, using a towel, close the lid and continue cooking;
- Steam does not pass through the filter. Most often, this problem occurs due to the fact that too much coffee was poured into the filter or the powder turned out to be too fine. Solution: do not clog coffee in the filter and use only coarse and medium grind beans. In addition, the problem may be that the filter is clogged. You can prevent the occurrence of problems if you thoroughly wash the device after each use;
- The volume stated in the instructions does not work. Exit: pour water up to the mark, no more and no less, to ensure proper operation of the system;
- Water remains in the lower container and as a result the drink is less than necessary. Solution: pour water up to a special mark, check the grinding.
If you follow the instructions and use the equipment for its intended purpose, there will be no problems with its operation.
How to choose a geyser coffee maker
When choosing, pay attention to the following points:
- Type of coffee maker. Think about which type of such equipment is more convenient for you: electric or gas. Electric units are more expensive, but they are more convenient and practical than gas coffee makers. If you will use the device where there is no light, then it is better to choose a gas type;
- Place of purchase. Do not buy in the markets, use specialized stores or trusted Internet resources to buy. So you warn yourself against buying defective and low-quality goods;
- Pay attention to power. The cooking speed depends on the power;
- Volume. The main nuance of the unit is that if it is designed for 10 cups, each with a volume of 50 ml, then cook this amount at a time. The fact is that it is impossible to pour water above the mark, and if you pour less liquid, the pressure will not allow the water to completely pass through the funnel;
- Pay attention to the handle: The metal gets very hot and can burn your fingers. Choose a handle made of heat-resistant material: it will prevent burns during operation and make the process more comfortable;
- There must be a mark in the water tankto which water should be collected;
- Lid. It is better if the lid or upper container of the coffee maker is transparent: this way you will see how the liquid fills the upper vessel and learn about the degree of readiness;
- Material. Most often they are made of steel or aluminum. Aluminum tends to change the taste of the finished drink, so it is better to take a steel coffee maker;
- Manufacturer. It is better to buy a household appliance from a well-known manufacturer, proven over the years;
- Additional functions. Additional features include: off indicator, timer, built-in coffee grinder, etc.;
- Design. Choose among hundreds of options for coffee makers the one you like. In addition, the device must also be in harmony with the overall interior of the kitchen.
