Carpets

The carpet creates an image of home comfort, warmth and comfort. A properly selected product complements the interior, transforms it according to your requirements and wishes.

Types of carpets

Classification by type of production

  • Machine. The machine produces up to 2.5 thousand square meters of carpeting per day. Therefore, the quality is standard, proven.
  • Manual. Such products are distinguished by individuality and originality. But the cost is high, since one carpet is made for 2-3 months.

Carpet materials

Wool carpets

Natural and high quality finish. Woolen products correspond to the classic design, are expensive, but last a long time. The basis includes sheep wool – soft, warm, durable and pleasant to the touch. Sometimes manufacturers add camel or goat hair.

Peculiarities:

  • attractive to moths;
  • accumulate static electricity;
  • get dirty quickly.

Many modern manufacturers impregnate carpets with special antifungal agents, dirt-repellent compounds and anti-molding agents.

Woolen coatings are tinted in soothing colors (white, brown, yellow, gray), as the paint does not take well. But the color keeps well – after 10 years the brightness will remain the same.

Silk carpets

It is made from threads extracted from silkworm cocoons. The thread has a triangular cross section and refracts light, causing beautiful overflows and shine. The price of such a carpet will be high.

Peculiarities:

  • afraid of moisture;
  • high price;
  • poorly cleaned;
  • low thermal insulation.

With the help of thin silk threads, a detailed study of the pattern is carried out.

Viscose carpets

The composition of the material includes a natural component of cellulose. Therefore, according to the characteristics of viscose, it approaches natural material.

Viscose threads are easily dyed, so the carpets made from it are colorful and shiny. Most of the products have a floral print, but there are also solid colors. Coatings do not fade for a long time.

Peculiarities:

  • low fire safety;
  • cannot be used in wet areas;
  • white products turn yellow from water or fungus.

During production, viscose is often added to wool for an attractive pattern or to silk to reduce the cost of the product.

Carpets made of polyamide (nylon)

Polyamide is a synthetic material. Fibers are produced by processing organic raw materials (oil, natural coal, gas). Nylon coating is widely used in manufacturing.

Peculiarities:

  • quickly fade in the sun;
  • lose softness;
  • electrified.

Such products are very popular. Sometimes nylon is combined with other materials.

Carpets made of polyester (polyester)

Polyester is created from synthetic polyester fiber using a special technology. The result is a product that is close in performance to cotton, and in appearance to wool.

Peculiarities:

  • accumulate static voltage;
  • after deformation, they do not return to their original shape.

Pile structure classification

Looped carpets

  • The one-level structure of the carpet consists of loops of the same length. The density of the pile allows the use of such products in places with a high operational load.
  • A looped multi-level system is formed by connecting loops of different lengths that create a three-dimensional pattern. These rugs are attractive.
  • Scroll is a multi-level looped coating with sheared tops.

Cut (shorn) pile

  • There are short-pile (2-3 mm), medium-pile (3-5 mm) and high-pile carpets (more than 5 mm).
  • Velor is a smooth, uniform velvet surface. It is also called plush cover. It is easy to care for the product, but traces of furniture often remain on it.
  • Saxony – twisted yarn. The surface is flat but not smooth. Looks very elegant.
  • Frize is a long twisted pile. On such a carpet, dirt and footprints are invisible.

Sculptural carpets created using hand-tufting technology are very popular. Each pile is attached to the grid, and for patterned volumetric areas, the pile is taken in various lengths.

Pros of carpets

The advantages are determined by the material from which the carpet is made.

Wool

  • elasticity;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • resistance to mechanical damage;
  • the material has fire-fighting properties, does not support combustion;
  • expensive, noble appearance;
  • absorbs excess moisture, and as soon as the air becomes dry, returns it;
  • very long service life (40-50 years).

Silk

  • high strength, thin, light;
  • handmade carpets are made from a huge number of knots, so they are very dense;
  • perfectly keep their shape;
  • possess fire-fighting properties;
  • hypoallergenic.

Viscose

  • suitable for crowded places;
  • affordable cost;
  • hypoallergenicity;
  • breathability;
  • no static electricity is generated;
  • soft, pleasant to the touch;
  • items weigh a little.

Polyamide (nylon)

  • elastic, durable;
  • average cost;
  • good fire-fighting qualities;
  • beautiful shine of fibers;
  • dry quickly, easy to wash;
  • all kinds of color solutions;
  • fire fighting;
  • excellent decorative material made of beautiful shiny fiber;
  • resistant, durable.

Polyester (polyester)

  • soft to the touch;
  • luxurious appearance, especially for carpets with long pile;
  • warm;
  • suitable for a child’s room or living room;
  • various shapes, textures, dimensions;
  • simple care, cleaning;
  • resistance to pollution;
  • color does not change in the sun;
  • wear resistance;
  • long service life.

Cons of carpets

  • Static voltage. A common problem with wool and synthetic products.
  • high cost. Quality products are not cheap. The price depends on the length of the pile, material, production method, manufacturer. Domestic carpets, as a rule, are cheaper than imported ones. Natural rugs are much more expensive than artificial ones. The most economical options would be polypropylene mats.
  • Difficulties in care. The larger the carpet, the more difficult it is to care for it. A meter-diameter carpet is easy to wash, but a six-meter walkway is unlikely to be cleaned without the help of dry cleaners.
  • Low stain resistance. Most products quickly absorb dust and spilled liquids.

How to choose

By room type

  • If you choose a flooring for the hallway, it is better to give preference to artificial materials with a rubber base. The water-resistant backing will ensure a long service life, and the small pattern will help hide the inevitable stains.
  • For the living room, a carpet with a small or medium length of pile is suitable – it does not leave prints from furniture.
  • For a children’s room, coatings with medium and long pile are recommended. The coloring is bright and colorful.
  • When placing the flooring at the entrance, pay attention that the metal elements do not damage the marble or tiles.
  • For the bathroom, special rugs are used – cotton or synthetic with foam rubber. There are also special anti-slip coatings for showers and bathtubs.
  • The bedroom will be made comfortable and quiet by a canvas with a long pile. You can also put small soft rugs directly next to the beds – so they will not leave prints from the bed. It is recommended to use products of pastel colors, pick up blankets and bedspreads in color.

About the color of the product

  • If the room is bright, then it is better to give preference to cold colors. A dark room will be refreshed by a coating of warm tones.
  • Stylish if the gamma of the carpet matches the floor. But if you have a dark laminate or linoleum, you can play in contrast.
  • To emphasize the beauty of furniture, choose a solid color product. A carpet with a pattern attracts attention, distracts from the interior.
  • Carpets of large sizes with the original image have no place in cramped rooms. They are designed for spacious rooms.

By carpet design

A wide range of carpets will provide a choice of products for any room. But some trends will help determine the purchase.

  • Fashionable models are considered “worn”, as if burnt out in the sun. Such a product is suitable for an interior with antique furniture.
  • The classic interior is combined with French-style carpets – with baroque ornaments or floral arabesque motifs.
  • Modernity requires restraint and rigor. Opt for solid color carpeting with geometric patterns or avant-garde elements.
  • For rooms with an African or oriental interior, beige, brown colors are used.
  • Small canvases will decorate separate areas of the room: in front of a bed, a fireplace, a children’s corner.

By shape

  • The circle is an interesting option, suitable for many places in the house. Looks impressive in the hallway, nursery, under the coffee table in the living room.
  • The octagon is suitable for any room where it lies freely.
  • The oval is used in the kitchen.
  • The square fits the rooms of the correct geometric shape.

Leave free space around the edges. The larger the gap, the more spacious the room looks. It is undesirable to put furniture on the carpet, it will create inconvenience during cleaning, the pile will be wrinkled.

Which is better

1. Quality

Each product has a limited lifespan, but only reliable quality ensures that it lasts. Inspect the product upon purchase; pay special attention to the edges so that threads and loops do not stick out.

2. Decorative

Aesthetics occupies an important place when choosing a carpet. It should please all family members, be combined with the decor of the room, match the color and style of the room.

3. Wear resistance

An important parameter when using the carpet in places with high traffic. Each material is characterized by its resistance indicators – study the description for the composition of the carpet.

4. Smell

Pay attention to the smell of the carpet. Find out how it’s processed. The intensity of the aroma depends on this.

5. Density

The more density, the better. If the product description does not indicate specific numbers, calculate it yourself. To do this, measure a section of 10 × 10 mm, count the number of knots, multiply the result by 100. Bend the carpet, if the base between the pile is visible, then the density is low. He will not serve long.

6. Wrong side

Examine the back surface. Handmade repeats completely the external pattern. Usually there are some irregularities, this is acceptable.

7. Tactile sensations

A good carpet is pleasant to the feet. This is important when it comes to a residential building. Natural wool is the most delicate, natural, soft. Artificial materials approach these sensations.

8. Hygiene

Natural carpet with antiseptic impregnation guarantees the absence of fungus or mold under the carpet and inside the pile. Artificial canvases do not need such treatments.

9. Eco-friendly

The materials of the pile and base can release harmful substances.

10. Care

An important role is played by the method of care. If you choose a light-colored product, be prepared to constantly spend time cleaning. Think about how you will clean, wash and dry the carpet.

How to use carpets

  • A new carpet after purchase must be vacuumed to remove the remnants of the pile, and well ventilated.
  • Particles of pile may fall out for another 2-3 months – this is the norm for woolen and synthetic products.
  • Avoid constant stress on a specific part of the coating – heavy objects and furniture leave dents that cannot be removed.

Care

  • The cover needs constant cleaning. You will need a broom of medium hardness or a vacuum cleaner with a special soft nozzle.
  • Vacuum the surface before cleaning. Using a detergent, check first on a separate section whether it affects the color.
  • Do not wet the carpet base, otherwise it will deteriorate. Cotton and jute coverings cannot be cleaned with a washing vacuum cleaner.
  • In winter, you can clean it with dry snow: spread the carpet on the snow with the pile down and knock out the dust with special flexible beaters.

Storage

Keep unused carpet in a cool, dry place. Vacuum, treat with moth repellent and dry the surface before rolling into a roll.

How to clean carpet

Wet cleaning

It implies the use of special shampoos: the product is whipped into foam and applied to the pile, after drying, the remnants are removed with a vacuum cleaner.

Cotton, jute and wool cannot be wetted – when dried, uneven shrinkage is observed, bubbles and folds appear.

Dry cleaning

Produced using a dry powder, which is applied manually or by machine. Dirt is absorbed up to 2 hours, then the residues are cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. During processing, the canvas remains dry, you can walk on it. This type of cleaning is recommended for cotton and jute coverings.

Each canvas has its own cleaning characteristics. Carefully study the instructions for a particular carpet.

Guarantee

Carpet cloths are serviced by a guarantee according to the legislation. Returns are made in the presence of manufacturing damage, subject to the instructions for use.

The warranty is not provided if:

  • there are external damages;
  • frayed edges of products;
  • the carpet was laid on the stairs;
  • the carpet has been damaged as a result of mechanical impact or the use of aggressive cleaning agents.

The warranty period starts from the moment of sale or shipment from the warehouse. The standard term is 12 months of operation.
