Barely a day had passed after the presentation of new Apple smartphones, when a synthetic Geekbench test was launched on the iPhone 14 Pro, the results of which were unexpected: the newest flagship was inferior to last year’s model in terms of performance.
In the multi-core test, the new Apple A16 Bionic processor was 5% slower than the A15, scoring 4,664 points versus 4,885 for its predecessor. In single-core, the result was better – 1,879 points versus 1,750 for the iPhone 13 Pro.
The current Android flagship chips are inferior to both Apple processors in Geekbench.
The A16 Bionic chip is equipped with the flagship iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The processor is produced by the TSMC factory using a 4 nm process technology, while 5 nm is used with the A15 Bionic. The new chip contains 16 billion transistors, one billion more than its predecessor.
Apple in 2022 tried to improve the optimization and energy efficiency of devices. So, high-performance CPU cores in A16 Bionic consume 20% less energy compared to A15 Bionic, and GPU bandwidth has increased by half – according to official data.
The processor score in the multi-core test may increase with the Geekbench update, so these numbers can be considered preliminary for now.
