At the Unpacked presentation, Samsung showed the fourth generation of its Galaxy Z foldable smartphones. Traditionally, the line is represented by two models: Fold4, which looks like a folding tablet, and a compact clamshell Flip4. Here’s what you need to know about them.

Galaxy Z Fold4

This smartphone runs on Android 12L, designed specifically for tablets and foldable devices. Applications in this version differ from the standard ones: for example, in TikTok you can scroll through comments while watching the video itself.

The new interface will be useful not only for entertainment. Improved multi-screen mode and a dock with favorite applications make it easier to work with mail and office applications.

The internal screen is a 7.6-inch AMOLED with a resolution of 2176 × 1812 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz and support for HDR10 +. The external display is slightly smaller, with a diagonal of 6.2 inches, an aspect ratio of 23.1:9 and a resolution of 2316 × 904 pixels. It is protected from scratches by the latest Gorilla Glass Victus+.

Inside is a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor paired with 12GB of fast LPDDR5X RAM. The amount of internal memory depends on the modification: you can choose from 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB. There is no microSD slot, but there is a tray for two SIM cards and eSIM support.

The main camera is triple: the main module is 50 megapixels, ultra-wide-angle 12 megapixels, plus a telephoto camera 10 megapixels. The external front camera has a resolution of 10 megapixels, the internal one is hidden under the screen and received a more modest 4 megapixels.

The 4400mAh battery supports 25W fast wired charging, with a maximum power of 15W without wire. The waterproof standard is IP68.

In terms of design, the clamshell has changed little from the third generation. There are two notable improvements: a more functional external display, where more information is now placed, and an updated internal one, on which the wrinkle is less noticeable.

The main display retained a diagonal of 6.7 inches. This is an AMOLED-matrix with FHD + resolution and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Like the Fold4, it’s protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+, and a similar panel also covers the external screen.

The updated 1.9-inch outdoor display can be used as a viewfinder when taking selfies with the main camera. It also allows you to view notifications from widgets, use cards from Samsung Pay, and manage smart home devices without opening the main screen.

In this generation, cameras are given special attention. Samsung has put emphasis on the ability to shoot in any position to capture the best shots. The main module is double, with a resolution of 12 megapixels, each sensor has optical stabilization. Selfie camera – 10 MP.

As in Fold4, the clamshell received the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. True, there is only 8 GB of RAM, and 512 GB of built-in memory in the maximum modification.

The hinge was reduced, which made it possible to place an enlarged 3,700 mAh battery inside (against 3,300 mAh in the previous generation). Supports fast charging at 25 W, with which the smartphone is charged up to 50% in just half an hour. The device is also compatible with wireless charging.
